Salt Rheum

Take a half pound of swamp sassafras bark, and boil it in enough fresh water to cover it, for the space of half an hour. Take of the water and thoroughly wash the part affected. Add hog's lard to some of the water, and simmer it over a moderate fire until the water is evaporated. Anoint the part affected, continuing the washing and anointing four days, and a cure is certain.
