MABEL BALLIN was born in Philadelphia, Pa., and received her education in that city. In youth she was left without parents and became the ward of her grandmother. At 6 years of age, she was playing the tambourine on the platform of a Salvation Army Hall. Finishing school, she secured a position as assistant to a local dressmaker. She then attended night school, studying to be an illustrator. When dreams of becoming an artist took wings a new interest in the stage awakened within her. In New York fortune smiled upon the fair Mabel and she did a "bit" when Hugo Ballin, the artist, became interested in her and finally wed her. Vitagraph offered her screen fame and accepting she made good, since winning screen stardom. She is 5 feet 3 inches in height, weighs 120 lbs., and has brown hair and brown eyes.
