George O'Brien

GEORGE O'BRIEN was born in California in 1900, and received his early education in San Francisco. As a student at Santa Clara College he excelled in his studies, also acquitting himself with distinction on the athletic field. A temporary lapse in his studies came when he enlisted in the navy at the start of the World War. On his return from duty he reentered college. At this time he met Tom Mix, who secured him a position as assistant camera man. Within a few months, because of his own personality and the interest of the Fox western star, he was cast for several small parts. It was while he was working in a small role that William Fox, impressed with his appearance, engaged him for the leading role in "The Iron Horse," which established him as a star. He is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 176 lbs., and has light hair and blue eyes.
