BLANCHE SWEET was born in Chicago, Ill., and received her education in Berkeley, California. She then turned her dancing talents into practical use by becoming a member of the Gertrude Hoffman Company. Later she toured with Chauncey Olcott, and attracting the attention of D. W. Griffith, was engaged to appear in his company, and scored an over-night success in "Judith of Bethulia." Her years of training on the legitimate stage assisted her materially to screen fame, though her poignant, wistful, sensitive beauty, and personality, coupled with inherent talent must be credited as the major reason for her success. She is the wife of Marshall Neilan, the director, is 5 feet 4 inches in height, weighs 120 lbs., and has golden hair and blue eyes.
