Little Foes.
Y AND BY " is a very bad boy, Shun him at once and forever, For they who travel with "By and By," Soon come to the house of "Never." "I Can't" is a mean little coward- A boy that is half of a man ; Set on him a plucky wee terrier That the world knows and honors-" I Can." "No use in trying," nonsense! I say- Keep trying until you succeed; But if you should meet "I Forgot" by the way, He's a cheat, and you'd better take heed. "Don't Care" and "No Matter," boys, they're a pair, And whenever you see the poor dolts, Say, "Yes, We do Care," and 'twould be "Great Matter," If our lives should be spoiled by such faults.

Slumber Song.
VER the hills, pet, over the hills, Where the air is glad with the ripple of rills, And the songster of night his melody trills Till morning light; There no one dreams, sweet, of slumber and sleep, For the elves and the fairies their revels keep All through the night.
Under the sea, pet, under the sea, Where rivulets wander joyous and free, And pearls of light flash merrily The caves among; There no one dreams, sweet, of slumber and sleep, For the mermaids are echoing under the deep The wild waves' song.
Under the sky, pet, under the sky, Spangled with stars that seem to draw nigh And peep at you, love, and smile as you lie On mother's breast; This is the land, sweet, of slumber and sleep, Where the angels of love watch and ward o'er us keep. .
Rest, then, pet, rest. (418) LIFE.
ROM helpless babe In mother's árms, To little child Each new thing charms; From child to maid At school and play With scarce scarce a care Life ebbs away.
From maid that dreams Of love that's true, To wife that goes Where all is new, From wife to mother, Grave and gay, 'Mid joys and cares Life ebbs away.
BABYHOOD.
WO pinky feet, Wee chubby toes, A mouth as sweet Aş any rose, Fat dimpled cheek, Twin eyes of grey That seem to speak In helpless way.
Without the power To tell its need, Which, every hour, True love must heed Mid smiles and tears, And many mood- So pass the years Of babyhood.
FE&ICS a CHILDHOOD.
ONG days of sun, Short nights of grief; No fear of woes Beyond relief; In home of wealth Or poorest cot, Life's childhood seems A happy lot..
For thought is rapt In present things, Centred on all That each day brings.
A bright spring life At school and play:
So passes by Glad childhood's day.
MAIDENHOOD.
SWEET June rose.
Of grace most rare, That but half shows Its petals fair, And blushes red The sün to greet:
A picture this Of maiden sweet..
O rose of June, So fair and shy, Too soon, too soon Love passes by, And in an hour All unforeseen, You own his power- A captive queen!
WIFEHOOD.
QUEENLY sway, Silent but strong; A wondrous power Enduring long- A power with might, All might above To bind a heart In bonds of love.
A solace true In darkest day; A joyous heart When life is gay; A comforter In pain or stri'e- God's precious gift:
A perfect wife.
M MOTHERHOOD.
LIFE that's full Of little cares, And doubts and fears No other shares; And yet a life That's glad with good The strong pure joy Of motherhood.
A bright blue sky Of happiness, Clouded at times Or more or less; A life that's full Of power for good:
This is the life Of motherhood.
