Mary Carr
MARY CARR, one of the best known mothers of the movies, was born in Germantown, Pa., and has been playing character roles since the earliest days of the screen. Always a dependable player who could be counted on for a splendid interpretation of any role of great dramatic potentialities, she was little recognized by the public in the first years of her screen work. It was not until she played the mother role in "Over the Hill," the picture that also brought Johnnie Walker to the fore, that she became a star and took her well earned place with the very few other character actors who have gained that distinction. Mrs. Carr at home is quite the mother that she always appears on the screen and her children, who are well known to motion picture "fans," are ample evidence that she is a true master of her favorite role.
