The Ball (Present style of ball)

The present style of ball, with the exception of some very slight modifications, seems to have been in use since cricket assumed anything like its present form. According to the rules of the present day, it must not be more than 9 inches in circumference, and must not weigh more than 5 3/4 or less than 5 1/4 ounces. Match balls are always treble-seamed, and are sold at the average price of 7 s. 6d. But for ordinary practice, a double-seamed ball, at about 6s., will be found quite good enough, and will answer just as well as the more expensive article.
